The mission of Scouting is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime by instilling in them values of the Scouting program. Scouting program is a fun and adventurous program centered around a core set of values. The Cub Scout program provides a positive environment for developing youth in four main areas: Character Building, Citizenship, Personal Fitness (emotional and physical) and Leadership. The program has played a role in developing Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong, Charles Duke, Jim Lovell, John Wayne, Steven Spielberg, Mike Rowe, Jay Leno, Harrison Ford, Nolan Ryan and many more. This development is not possible without wholesome activities and stellar adult volunteer leadership.
The Pack Committee is made up of volunteer adults as needed for the Pack to operate. The committee meets once a month or more often if needed and is led by a Committee Chair. The committee recruit’s leaders, performs record keeping, manages pack finances, order awards, maintains pack equipment, helps train volunteer leadership, and helps to recognize our volunteers. You can see our current pack committee here
The Pack is sponsored by a Chartered Organization, Pack 176 is chartered by The Bay Lane Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (BLE PTO). The Chartered Organization approves leadership selections, helps secure a meeting place, keeps the pack within the sponsor’s and Scouts BSA/Scouting America guidelines and policies. The Chartered Organization Representative is the liaison between our pack and our sponsor.
The Pack is divided into small groups called Dens, who meet one or twice a month under the direction of adults called Den Leaders. The Den Leaders are trained parent volunteers who plan the meetings and guide the Den in completing their achievements and advancements. The Den allows the Scouts to engage with fellow youth of the same age and complete activities that would be difficult in a larger group. The Den is where the majority of the Scouting experience occurs.
Den meetings are planned and run by the Den Leader and Assistant Den Leader with the help of other parent and sometimes youth volunteers. The meetings may include the following: games, songs, crafts, skills practice, ceremonies and outdoor activities. Most meetings center around Scout advancement requirements.
Lion and Tiger parents are required to attend every meeting and event with their Scout. Wolf, Bear, Webelo and Arrow of Light typically require additional assistance without the requirement to stay at the meeting, but most parents do. Please remember it is the parent/guardian responsibility to support the Scout along their journey and assist when needed to ensure completion of advancement requirements.
The Pack only continues to survive and thrive through parent leadership and volunteerism. The best donation you can give is your time!
There are different ways to donate to the Pack:
Leaders are the life blood of Cub Scouts. You can find a list of pack positions here. If you are interested in any of the positions listed or wish to join the ranks of leadership (and earn the coveted "tan shirt" please contact us at cubmaster@muskegopack176.org.
Parents don't have to wear a uniform to help. Parent Coordinators and Volunteers are needed for major events (like Pine Wood Derby or Winter Camp), during Pack Events, during Fundraising season, and "at large" throughout the scouting year to help us earn awards, ranks, and learn. You can fill out the "Family Talent Survey" to share your interest and special skills. If you have questions please contact cubmaster@muskegopack176.org
The Pack finances all events, space rentals, awards, meals, and purchases via fundraising; primarily the Popcorn, Wreath, and Kringle sales at the beginning of the school year. We also can accept donations throughout the year, either monetarily or material.
Material donations could range from donuts during the Rain Gutter Regatta to storage space for our trailer
If you have questions about fundraising, how you can help, or a donation please contact fundraising@muskegopack176.org
